Spitzer space telescope of NASA retired on January 30, 2020.
NASA’s Spitzer Mission studied the universe in infrared light for more than 16 years.
Spitzer Space Telescope was launched in 2003.
It is the last mission of the NASA Great Observatories program, which saw four specialized telescopes (including the Hubble Space Telescope) launched between 1990 and 2003.
Using different infrared wavelengths, Spitzer was able to see and reveal features of the universe.
Spitzer focuses on the infrared band, which normally represents heat radiation from objects.
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, set to launch in 2021, will study the universe in many of the same wave-lengths observed by the Spitzer.
