- Microwave Ovens and Washing Machines will also now be assigned star rating to indicate their Energy efficiency.
- This programme of star rating of Microwave Ovens and Washing Machines will be implemented on a voluntary basis and will be valid up to December 31, 2020.
- The criteria approved for the washing machines also include water efficiency in addition to energy performance for grant of star rating.
- Ratings will be given by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
- BEE is a statutory body set up under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
- BEE assists government with strategies to reduce overall energy intensity of Indian Economy within the framework of Energy Conservation Act.
