Chief Minister M K Stalin revamped the State Development Policy Council (SDPC) with Prof J Jayaranjan as the new vice chairman.
It is headed by the chief minister.
Besides a permanent member the council will have eight part-time members.
Prof Rama Srinivasan will be its permanent member.
The other part time members include Prof M Vijayabaskar, Prof Sultan Ahmed Ismail, former IAS official M Deenabandhu, industrialist Mallika Srinivasan and DMK MLA from Manaargudi T R B Rajaa, Dr. Narthaki Nataraj and medical practitioners J Amalorpavanathan and K Sivaraman.
New history is being written in Tamil Nadu by having Thirumiku Narthaki Nataraj as the member of the State Development Policy Committee.
This is the first time in India a Transgender people is in a high-level committee of a state government.
State planning commission was originally established by the former chief minister M Karunanidhi on May 25, 1971.
It was established as an advisory body to recommend developmental schemes for the state.
It was renamed as State Development Policy Council by the earlier AIADMK government on April 23, 2020.
