- Chief Minister M K Stalin revamped the State Development Policy Council (SDPC) with Prof J Jayaranjan as the new vice chairman.
- It is headed by the chief minister.
- Besides a permanent member the council will have eight part-time members.
- Prof Rama Srinivasan will be its permanent member.
- The other part time members include Prof M Vijayabaskar, Prof Sultan Ahmed Ismail, former IAS official M Deenabandhu, industrialist Mallika Srinivasan and DMK MLA from Manaargudi T R B Rajaa, Dr. Narthaki Nataraj and medical practitioners J Amalorpavanathan and K Sivaraman.
- New history is being written in Tamil Nadu by having Thirumiku Narthaki Nataraj as the member of the State Development Policy Committee.
- This is the first time in India a Transgender people is in a high-level committee of a state government.
- State planning commission was originally established by the former chief minister M Karunanidhi on May 25, 1971.
- It was established as an advisory body to recommend developmental schemes for the state.
- It was renamed as State Development Policy Council by the earlier AIADMK government on April 23, 2020.
