- Retired district judge D. Jayachandran took over as the acting chairperson of Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
- He was one of the two members of Tamil Nadu SHRC.
About Tamil Nadu SHRC
- The State Human Rights Commission was constituted in the state of Tamil Nadu on 17.4.1997.
- It was established under section-21 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
- As per the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act 2019, chairperson and members of SHRC will hold office for 3 years or till 70 years of age or whichever is earlier.
- A person who has been Chief Justice/Judge of High Court will be chairperson of SHRC.
