Around 733 million people or 1 in 11 people faced hunger globally in 2023.
The world is far off track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, Zero Hunger.
Between 713 and 757 million people were estimated to be undernourished in 2023.
This is approximately 152 million more than in 2019 when considering the mid-range (733 million).
An estimated 28.9 percent of the global population were moderately or severely food insecure in 2023.
The percentage of the population facing hunger continues to rise in Africa (20.4 percent), remains stable in Asia (8.1 percent)and shows progress in Latin America (6.2 percent).
In 2023, around 2.33 billion people globally faced moderate or severe food insecurity.
The estimates of adult obesity show a steady increase over the last decade, from 12.1 percent (2012) to 15.8 percent (2022).
