Status of Leopards report 2018

  • It was released recently by the Environment Ministry of India.
  • India now has 12,852 leopards.
  • 60 percent rise was witnessed in Leopard population across the Country.
  • India has 7910 leopards in 2014.
  • The States of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra recorded the highest leopard estimates at 3,421, 1,783 and 1,690 respectively.
  • Leopards are listed as “Vulnerable” in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
