  • Union Ministry for Science and Technology inaugurated the India’s first supercritical-CO2 Brayton cycle test loop facility at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
  • It is first test loop technology coupled with solar heat source in world that will generate clean energy from power plants, including solar thermal.
  • Supercritical carbon dioxide-based power generation is said to offer an efficient alternative to conventional steam-based power plants, thus reducing the carbon foot print significantly.
  • It was developed as part of the Indo-U.S. consortium called Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States.
  • Funding was provided by Department of Science and Technology (DS&T) under Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Centre programme.
