Union Ministry for Science and Technology inaugurated the India’s first supercritical-CO2 Brayton cycle test loop facility at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
It is first test loop technology coupled with solar heat source in world that will generate clean energy from power plants, including solar thermal.
Supercritical carbon dioxide-based power generation is said to offer an efficient alternative to conventional steam-based power plants, thus reducing the carbon foot print significantly.
It was developed as part of the Indo-U.S. consortium called Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States.
Funding was provided by Department of Science and Technology (DS&T) under Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Centre programme.
