- Syeda Anwara Taimur, the only woman chief minister of Assam passed away recently.
- She was also the only female Muslim chief minister of Assam and first female Muslim CM of any state.
- Taimur was four-time MLA and the member of Indian National congress.
- She was chief minister from December 6, 1980, to June 30, 1981.
- She served as public works department minister from 1983 to 1985.
- In 1988, she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
