- World rapid chess champion Viswanathan Anand lifted the 11th Tal Memorial rapid chess title after registering a final round draw against Boris Gelfand of Israel in Moscow.
- Anand, whose solitary loss came at the hands of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan in the third round, beat four other opponents on his way to the tournament's final round.
