Tamil Nadu has received five awards from the central government for effectively implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.
Municipal administration and rural development Minister S.P Velumani received the award for Excellence in NREGA Administration.
The state government has also received an award for the initiatives under Geo-MGNREGA, performance in Aadhaar seeding and conversion.
Tuticorin district administration got a national award for achieving self-sufficiency under seven schemes under Grama Swaraj Abhiyan.
District Collectors Annadurai and Prashant M Wadnere have been honored for effective implementation of the scheme in Thanjavur and Tiruvannamalai districts.
