- In February 2018, 13-hour Tamil Nadu’s first bilateral hand transplant surgery took place at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, Chennai.
- Doctors reconstructed both hands below the elbow with a pair of hands donated by an accident victim who was declared brain dead.
