- The Tamil Nadu government issued an order to set up a bird sanctuary at Nanjarayan Tank in Tiruppur district.
- This will be the 17th bird sanctuary in Tamil Nadu.
- The area attracts more than 130 bird species including migratory birds.
- It was built by King Nanjarayan as a source for irrigation.
- It is also known as Sarkar Periyapalayam Reservoir.
