- Tamil scholar, Periyarist and former director of Tamil Development Department Ma. Nannan passed away.
- Nannan was famous for his classes in Doordarshan program ‘Tamil Karpom’
- Nannan was a professor of Tamil at the Presidency college in Chennai and the author of over 70 books and was the recipient of Tamil Nadu’s Periyar, Thiru Vika and Anna awards.
- He also served as Director of Tamil Development and Vice-Chairman of Adult Education Board.
- Nannan was a freedom fighter and he participated in the Quit India Movement and he also involved himself in the anti-Hindi agitation.
