Tamilnadu government announces Singaravelar award for writers

  • Tamilnadu Government has introduced ‘Singaravelar Award’, which will be awarded annually for best writers in Tamil language on behalf of Tamil Development Department.
  • The award will be given to writers who write scientific concepts in Tamil , books related to Social Progress, Egalitarian Policies and Labour Forces.
  • The prize includes 1 lakh cash prize and 8 gram gold medal.
M.Singaravelu
  • Malayapuram Singaravelu Chettiar (18 February 1860 – 11 February 1946), also known as M. Singaravelu and Singaravelar is a communist leader and founder of the first trade union in India.
  • For his commendable works in spreading communist thoughts in tamilnadu, he was called “Sindhanai Sirppi” (Sculptor of thoughts).
