- The State Election Commission of Tamilnadu notified that the elections for the following posts shall be held on party basis
- Ward members of town panchayats,
- Councillors of municipalities and corporations,
- Chairmen of town panchayats and municipalities,
- Mayors of corporations,
- Ward members of panchayat unions
- Ward members of district panchayats.
- Chennai and other municipal city corporations in the state of Tamil Nadu will be directly voting in their respective mayors.
- The state election commission has notified direct elections to the offices of mayors of municipal corporations.
- This means that elected councillors will no longer be voting to pick the mayor.
- The state election commission will use ballot papers for election of
- member of village panchayat ward,
- president of village panchayat,
- member of panchayat union ward
- member of district panchayat.
- The electronic voting machines will be used in urban local bodies and urban voters will elect
- ward member of corporation
- mayor of corporation,
- chairman of town panchayat
- chairman of municipality
