Tamilnadu government conferred state awards to personalities on the occasion of Tiruvalluvar Day (January 15).
A total of nine awards were conferred on nine eminent personalities for their contribution to society and development of Tamil language.
Tiruvalluvar Award (2018) went to Dr. G. Periannan for his contributions to Tamil literature.
Thanthai Periyar Award was conferred on B. Valarmathi for her initiatives as Social Welfare Minister.
George K.J., who the citation said is known for his contributions for education to students belonging to scheduled tribe communities, was awarded Annal Ambedkar Award.
Founding member of Anna Thozhisangam A. Subramanian was awarded Perarignar Anna Award.
Educationalist T.R. Dhinakaran was awarded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Award.
Academician Dr. S. Balasubramaian alias Bharathibalan was given Mahakavi Bharathiar Award.
Pavendhar Bharathidasan Award went to writer K. Jeevabharathi
Thamizhthendral Thiru. Vi. Ka. Award went to writer and dialogue writer V. Balakumaran.
Professor Dr. P. Marudhanayagam, a noted academician in the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, was awarded Muthamizh Kaavalar K.A.P Viswanathan Award.
