- In India the birthday of the second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teachers' Day since 1962.
- Born on September 5 of 1888, he served the first vice President of India (for two terms 1952/62) and second President of India (1962/67).
- In 1954, along with Rajaji and Sir CV Raman, he was awarded Bharat Ratna.
