- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the birth anniversary of 19th century saint Vallalar (October 5th) will be celebrated as 'Thaniperum Karunai' (mercy of the Lord) day every year.
- Thiruvarutprakasa Vallalār Chidambaram Ramalingam, commonly known in India and across the world as Vallalār, Ramalinga Swamigal and Ramalinga Adigal.
- Vallalar was born in 1823 in Maruthur near Chidambaram in Cuddalore district.
- He founded ‘Sathiya Gnana Sabai’ in Vadalur in the Cuddalore district.
