India Wants Thirty-Metre Telescope Shifted Out of Hawaii of USA.
India has committed 10% of the project's resources, a sum of about Rs 1,423 crore.
Once it is built, the Thirty-Meter Telescope (TMT) will become one of the world’s largest general-purpose observatories and one of the largest visible-light telescopes.
It will allow astronomers to study the outer reaches of the universe and study distant stars and exoplanets than much greater detail than is currently possible.
TMT has been proposed atop the dormant Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii.
The Volcano is also a sacred location for the island’s native population.
About TMT
The Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) is an astronomical observatory with an extremely large telescope (ELT).
It is an international project being funded by scientific organisations of Canada, China, India, Japan and USA.
The TMT is designed for near-ultraviolet to mid-infrared observations, featuring adaptive optics to assist in correcting image blur.
