King Charles III ascends to the throne of the United Kingdom, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
At the age of 73, Charles is expected to be the oldest British monarch to be crowned.
He has endured the longest wait to ascend the throne in British history.
In addition to the United Kingdom, Charles also serves as the head of state for 14 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.
Prince William, Charles’s oldest child, is now first in line for the throne.
He receives the titles Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, and Duke of Cambridge.
