- A tigress from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra moved to the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha.
- The translocation project is part of Odisha government’s efforts to improve the gene pool of tigers inside the reserve.
- Similipal is the country’s only wild habitat for melanistic royal Bengal tigers.
- The Odisha Tiger Estimation conducted this year found that out of the total 24 adult tigers in Similipal, 13 are pseudo-melanistic.
