  • Tipu Sultan’s sword, the 18th century ruler of Mysuru, has been sold for 14 million pounds ($17.4 million or  140 crore) at an auction in London.
  • Tipu Sultan won fame in wars of the late 18th century.
  • He fought against the Marathas on several occasions between 1775 and 1779.
  • The sword was found in the private quarters of Tipu Sultan's palace.
  • Tipu Sultan was given the nickname "Tiger of Mysore" for the ferocity with which he defended his kingdom.
