- The Tamil Nadu government announced a sum of ₹10 crores to set up a Chair for Tamil studies at the prestigious Harvard University, towards the plan mooted by two United States-based Tamil enthusiasts.
- The setting up of such a Chair would immensely contribute to Indology and also research on Tamil literature and culture
- Cardiologist Vijay Janakiraman and oncologist S.T. Sambandam had mooted the idea and had contributed funds for the proposal.
