- The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu launched a new initiative of Revenue and Disaster Management Department - Tamil Nadu System for Multi-Hazard Potential Impact Assessment and Emergency Response Tracking (TN-SMART) for use during the approaching of the northeast monsoon.
- This system will enable to get forecast for areas that will be inundated for a given amount of rainfall forecast and will help District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to plan an appropriate response measures to prevent loss of lives and damage to movable assets during disasters, monsoon and drought periods.
- The TN-SMART has been developed in collaboration with the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) an inter-governmental organisation registered with United Nations, based in Thailand.
