  • Lok Sabha has passed Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 that aims to curb practice of evading criminal prosecution by economic offenders fleeing from country to evade clutches Indian law by remaining outside jurisdiction of Indian courts.
    • The bill will replace an ordinance promulgated by President in April 2018.
  • Parliament has passed State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill, 2017 to merge six subsidiary banks with State Bank of India after it was approved by Rajya Sabha.
    • The bill already has been passed in Lok Sabha in 2017 Monsoon session of Parliament.
  • Myanmar joined the India-initiated International Solar Alliance (ISA), thus, becoming the 68th signatory to the Framework Agreement of the ISA that aims for optimum utilisation of solar energy.
  • India and Japan held the fourth round of Maritime Affairs Dialogue in New Delhi.

  • The Goa government has announced a 15-day ban on import of Goa's staple diet from all states, nearly a week after the food and drug administration of USA (FDA) found formalin in fish imported from other states at Goa's only wholesale fish market in Margao.
    • Formalin, a carcinogen, is used as a preservative in storing fish is considered to be toxic.
