- The Former defence minister Geroge Fernandes (88) passed away due to prolonged illness. He served as the Defence Minister in the year 1998. During his regime as the Defence Minister, Fernandes oversaw the Pokhran nuclear tests of 1998 and the Kargil war in 1999.
