- Writer Bhagyam Ramaswamy, creator of the comic characters Appusami and Seethapatti passed away. Bhagyam Ramaswamy is the pseudonym of Ja Ra Sundaresan, who worked at the Tamil weekly magazine Kumudham for nearly four decades before retiring as joint editor in 1990.
