- Professor Dhirendra Pal Singh, serving as director of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, has been appointed chairperson of University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of five years by the Government of India. The post has been lying vacant since April 2017 after the retirement of professor Ved Prakash.
- The Union Cabinet has approved extension of term of Commission to examine the issue of sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) by 12 weeks i.e. upto 2 April, 2018.
