- Two new species of marine eel were discovered and documented in August this year by Estuarine Biology Regional Centre (EBRC) of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) at Gopalpur-on-sea in Odisha.
- They are: ‘Gymnothorax andamanensesis’ and ‘Gymnothorax smithi’
- "Obama: The Call of History" a book written by Peter Baker, the Chief White House Correspondent for The New York Times has been released. It chronicles the Presidential years of Obama.
- In the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup, Abhishek Varma and Saurabh Chaudhary have won gold and bronze respectively in the 10m Air Pistol event.
- The 10th edition of “The La Ultra-the High” marathon was conducted in Ladakh in 55, 111, 222, 333, 555 kms categories. It is one of the toughest marathons in the world due to extreme weather and altitude.
