  • Facetagr, the face-recognition mobile application developed by Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer P Aravindhan and his team to identify profiled criminals is gaining national recognition.
    • Based on a report submitted by the IPS officer to the National Police Academy (NPA) and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BP&RD), a full-fledged ‘national automated facial recognition’ (AFR) system will soon be rolled out across India.
  • Pankaj Kumar, the additional secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, will be the new CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issues Aadhaar.
  • The Assam Cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has decided that no government jobs will be given to persons having more than two children after January 1, 2021 as per the small family norm.
    • It also promised to give three bighas of agricultural land to landless indigenous people and half a bigha for constructing a house.
  • Justin Trudeau has won a second term as Canada’s Prime Minister after his Liberals Party had won 156 seats, 14 short of the 170 needed for a majority in the 338-seat House of Commons. Opposition party, The Conservatives won 121 seats in Parliament.
    • Indian Origin Sikh leader Jagmeet Singh of New Democratic Party (NDP) with 24 seats is expected to support Justin Trudeau to form the next government.
