  • “The World Energy Outlook 2019” report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) has predicted that India’s net oil import requirements will more than double between 2018 and 2040.
    • The report’s “Sustainable Development Scenario” (SDS) charts out measures that would be required to limit global warming to 1.65 degree Celsius.
  • Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa swore in, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka until general elections due next year.
    • Mahinda replaces PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, who quit following his party’s Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s poll defeat despite having a parliamentary majority.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved strategic disinvestment in five large public sector undertakings and raise Rs.78,400 crores.
    • The list of companies is Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), THDC India Ltd and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).
  • The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is hosting the first counter-terrorism exercise for the "Quad" countries (India, the US, Japan and Australia) at the NIA headquarters in Delhi on November 21 and 22.
    • The 'CT-TTX' (counter-terrorism table-top exercise) is first such engagement among the Quad countries on regional and global issues of common interest and in the domain of counter-terrorism and cooperation.
  • The 2019 Global Terrorism Index, which was released recently, analysed the impact of terrorism for 163 countries in 2018. Talibans were named as the most dreaded terror organisation in the world.
    • The highest number of deaths was recorded in Afghanistan, with more than 7,000 deaths.
  • In December 1996, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 November as World Television Day commemorating the date on which the first World Television Forum was held in 1996.
  • World Fisheries Day is celebrated every year on November 21 to highlight the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems and ensure sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world.
