- “The World Energy Outlook 2019” report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) has predicted that India’s net oil import requirements will more than double between 2018 and 2040.
- The report’s “Sustainable Development Scenario” (SDS) charts out measures that would be required to limit global warming to 1.65 degree Celsius.
- Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa swore in, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka until general elections due next year.
- Mahinda replaces PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, who quit following his party’s Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s poll defeat despite having a parliamentary majority.
