- Mankidia, one of the 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) in Odisha, were denied habitat rights inside the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) under the historic Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
- The State Forest Department has objected on grounds that tribals could be attacked by wild animals, especially tigers.
- A Supreme Court Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra modified its November 30, 2016 interim order and made it optional for cinema halls to play national anthem before every show.
- The modification will be in place till the Union government takes a final decision on the recommendations of a 12-member high-profile inter-ministerial committee headed by BR Sharma.
