  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has developed an e-governance platform ‘SAMARTH Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)’ under the National Mission of Education in Information and Communication Technology Scheme (NMEICT).
    • The platform has been implemented at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra.
  • The World Bank approved 1 billion USD aid to India to accelerate “India’s COVID-19 Special Protection Response Programme”. 
    • The fund will be used to provide social assistance to poor, severely impacted and vulnerable households.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that like HIV, the novel coronavirus could become endemic and “may never go away”.
    • A disease is endemic like the chicken pox and malaria when its presence or usual prevalence in the population is constant.
  • Quinine Nongladew is a village named after the alkaloid quinine extracted from the bark of cinchona.
    • It is a village in Meghalaya which was called Quinine because of the plantation.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a cyclone alert, named ‘Cyclone Amphan’, for the Indian coastline across the Bay of Bengal.
    • The cyclone name was suggested by Thailand and will be the last name from the original list of 64 cyclone names proposed back in September 2004. 
  • The E-NAM (Electronic-National Agricultural Market) initiative has reached its set target of 1000 Mandis.
    • It was launched in 2016 under the platform called “One Nation One Market”.
