- Tamil Nadu was the first State in the country to introduce Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) in the government hospital.
- TAVI was launched at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital, Omandurar Estate, Chennai in November 2018.
- TAVI is performed on old-age heart patients who cannot undergo an open-heart surgery and involves replacement of valve through a keyhole procedure.
- Two people underwent the surgery successfully by free of cost.
- TN entered into a MoU with HeartTeam India to perform the surgery for patients.
