- Indian Ocean Wave Exercise 2018 (IOWave18) began on September 4, 2018 in the Indian Ocean. India along with 23 other nations is participating in this major Indian ocean-wide tsunami mock drill.
- This warning exercise is being organised by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.
- The exercise will involve the evacuation of more than 125000 peoplefrom the coastal communities of 9 states and UTs
- In India, IOWave18 is being coordinated by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) under Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) with support from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Coastal States/UTs.
