The celebration of Russian Language Day began in 2010 by UNESCO.
It is a part of its program to support and develop cultural diversity and multilingualism.
Its date coincides with Alexander Pushkin's birthday - June 6, 1799.
Pushkin is considered to be the greatest Russian poet ever who introduced Russia to all the European literary genres.
The UN has a program which aims to maintain the equality of the organisation’s six official languages: French, Spanish, English, Arabic, China and Russian.
