Ivory Coast has joined the United Nations Water Convention, becoming the 10th African nation to do so.
It is now the 53rd Party (country) to the 1992 UN Water Convention.
This convention is also known as the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes.
The Convention was initially established as a regional framework for the pan-European region.
In 2016, it is opened to all UN Member States but India is not a Party to Convention.
This Convention is a unique legally binding instrument promoting sustainable management of shared water resources, the implementation of the SDG, the prevention of conflicts, and the promotion of peace and regional integration.
