  • India's under-5 mortality rate has dramatically decreased from 35 to 32 in 2020.
  • Under-5 mortality rate has dramatically decreased from 35 per 1,000 live births in 2019 to 32 per 1,000 live births in 2020.
  • Largest fall was observed in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Karnataka.
  • It varies from 36 in rural areas to 21 in urban areas.
  • Kerala (6) had the lowest IMR while Madhya Pradesh (43) had the highest.
  • Kerala (8), Tamil Nadu (13) and other nine states and union territories have already met the SDG target of U5MR (less than or equal to 25 by 2030).
  • The national Crude Birth Rate (CBR) for 2020 is 19.5
  • It is representing a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from 2019.
