- United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has released the Global Assessment Report (GAR 2022).
- According to this report, by 2030, the planet will be facing around 560 disasters annually.
- Over the last 20 years, Earth has been experiencing 350 to 500 medium- to large-scale disasters annually.
- This is five times higher than what was reported in the previous three decades.
- This rapid rise in the frequency of disasters can be attributed to inadequate risk management and climate change.
- Poor risk management systems and governance are underestimating the true global risk which is putting all socio-economic gains in danger.
