  • UNICEF released a report named “COVID-19: Are children able to continue learning during school closures?”.
  • As per the report, At least a third of the world’s schoolchildren (463 million children globally) were unable to access remote learning when COVID-19 shuttered their schools.
  • Globally, 3 out of 4 students who cannot be reached by remote learning opportunities come from rural areas and/or poor households.
  • Almost all countries implemented digital and broadcast remote learning policies, but only 60 per cent did so for pre-primary education.
  • The report highlights significant inequality across regions.
  • Schoolchildren in sub-Saharan Africa are the most affected, with half of all students cannot be reached with remote learning.
