- India, along with 183 countries voted in favour of a General Assembly resolution that demanded ending the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba.
- The U.S. and Israel were the only nations voting against the resolution.
- Colombia, Ukraine and Brazil abstained on the resolution.
- The embargo against Cuba was imposed in 1960.
- This was following the revolution led by Fidel Castro and the nationalisation of properties belonging to U.S. citizens and corporations.
