- A US spy satellite has been launched into orbit from California.
- A powerful Delta 4 Heavy rocket carrying the National Reconnaissance Office satellite blasted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base.
- The mission, dubbed as NROL-7, is the company's 132nd successful launch since it was formed in December 2006.
- This was the second attempt after the launch was postponed because of a communication problem between the control centre and the launch site.
- The National Reconnaissance Office is responsible for U.S. intelligence satellites.
- United Launch Alliance is a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
