- The United States formally notified the United Nations that it was withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on climate change citing "unfair economic burden" on Americans.
- United States President Donald Trump had announced plans to exit the Pairs climate agreement in June 2017.
- In 2001, the then US President George W Bush announced that the US was withdrawing from the Kyoto Protocol, the first international climate agreement.
- The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance.
- It adapted in 2015 at CoP21 or 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference held at Paris.
- The Paris Agreement opened for signature on 22 April 2016 – Earth Day – at UN Headquarters in New York.
