- On the eve of the birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated Vigilance Awareness Week in New Delhi.
- The theme of the Vigilance Awareness Week – 2017 is “My Vision-Corruption-free India”.
- The 2017 Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW) will be observed by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) from 30th October to 4th
- The purpose of observing VAW is to educate the public at large about the corruption related practices and also educating them how to report about it.
Central Vigilance Commission
- Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is an autonomous statutory body created to address governmental corruption.
- It is free of control from any executive authority, charged with monitoring all vigilance activity under the Central Government of India.
- The Commission shall consist of
- A Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) - Chairperson;
- Not more than two Vigilance Commissioners (VC) - Members
- They are appointed by the President on the recommendation of three member committee.
- The committee consists of PM as its head, the union minister of Home affairs and the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha.
They hold office for a term of 4 years or until they attain the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
