WEF’s Inclusive Development Index 2018

  • India has been ranked 62 out of 74 emerging economies in the Inclusive Development Index 2018 released by the World Economic Forum.
  • It is much lower than China’s 26th position and Pakistan’s 47th.   Bangladesh (34) and Nepal (22) .
  • In 2017, India was ranked at 60th place among 79 developing economies ..
  • Norway was again remained world’s most inclusive advanced economy, while Lithuania again topped list of emerging economies.
  • Despite its low overall score, India is among the ten emerging economies with ‘advancing’ trend. Only two advanced economies have shown ‘advancing’ trend.
  • Among the G7 economies, Germany (12) ranks highest in the Inclusive Development Index.
  • Among the BRICS economies, Russia was ranked at 19th, followed by China (26), Brazil (37), India (62) and South Africa (69).
Inclusive Development Index
  • Inclusive Development Index has been released by the World Economic Forum Annually.
  • This Inclusive Development Index has been developed as a new metric of national economic performance as an alternative to GDP.
  • The index takes into account the living standards, environmental sustainability and protection of future generations from further indebtedness.
  • Inclusive Development Index (IDI) measures progress of 103 economies on three individual pillars – growth and development; inclusion; and inter-generational equity.
