West Bengal granted GI tag for Rosogolla

- The Union ministry of commerce and industry has recognised Banglar Rosogolla, the iconic sweet, by giving geographical indication (GI) to the West Bengal.
- Under the GI Act, West Bengal got the GI Tag over the Rosogulla, so because of this, the competing claims about origin of Rosogolla between the neighbouring state Odisha came to a conclusion.
- Nobin Chandra Das, is known to be the inventor of rosogolla. Nobin Chandra Das was a notable bengaliconfectioner, entrepreneur.
- Earlier this year, two exotic varieties of rice got GI recognition as unique products of West Bengal. Namely,
- Tulaipanji.
- Govindabhog.
