One fourth of adolescent girls who have been in relationships have endured physical or sexual violence.
WHO’s report showed that 24% of them had been subjected to intimate partner violence at least once, with 16% reporting it in the past year.
Rates were highest in Oceania followed by Africa, with 49% of girls reporting intimate partner violence in Papua New Guinea and 42% in Democratic Republic of Congo.
The lowest rate was Europe where 10% reported incidents.
According to the UN, 1 in 5 young women worldwide (19%) were married in child hood in 2022.
