• Roger Federer of Switzerland won the championship for the 8th time in gentlemen's singles of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. • The Championships, Wimbledon, commonly known simply as Wimbledon, was held in London. In gentlemen’s singles final event, Roger Federer of Switzerland defeated Marin Čilićof Croatia . • This makes him a male player with most Wimbledon trophies going past Pete Sampras and William Renshaw, who have 7 trophies.
