- Russia reported the first case of transmission of the H5N8 strain of avian flu to humans.
- The H5N8 is a sub-type of the Influenza A virus.
- It causes flu-like symptoms in birds and mammals.
- There was no sign yet of transmission between humans.
- Till now, it is largely restricted to birds and poultry.
- Recently, the samples of Crows from Maharashtra’s Beed district were found positive for the H5N8 strain.
